My Students

We love our 4th grade students because they are precious, curious and love learning. They are brave when taking risks, reaching higher to greater levels of learning and understanding. It is an awesome privilege to watch them develop confidence as they achieve, to discover how amazing and intelligent they are when they try their best.

Our students have a wide range of needs.

We enjoy working with and watching their eyes light up with excitement when they learn to love learning.

Every child is unique, with gifts and talents to share. They love to work together and encourage one another.

My Project

The 4th grade teachers at our elementary school would like to better facilitate understanding of challenging fraction concepts and computation skills using rainbow fraction tower link cubes that students can examine and manipulate. Representations of the equal parts that make up one whole—from halves to twelfths—would provide a connection between newly introduced fraction notation components and assembly models for fourth grade students, as well as more complex structures that represent simple to more challenging mathematical operations.

Every child deserves the chance to use a successful method that helps them to understand in a hands-on engaging way.

Learning the language and meaning of fractions is difficult. Exploration with a model that can be handled and managed makes the abstract concepts real. Teachers have long used paper models, but they are not sustainable, especially when cut into smaller fractions (pieces). They are easily lost or destroyed.
