My students need puffy fabric paint and personal book bags that are sturdy to help them take care of their books and other important reading materials.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Can I go book shopping?" is the question my students continue to ask me every week. I would love for my students to continue being excited about book shopping for new books and even bringing those books home to read or share. The more books they have, the more they will read!
To the children of our school in New York, school is one of their favorite places.
They know that when they come to school they will learn and they will be loved. They are empathetic, kindhearted, and determined young individuals. They learn these qualities from their peers, teachers, and even the books they indulge in.
Our school is located in a high poverty area and many of our students reside in housing projects. Our school provides these children with the skills they need in order to succeed in middle school, high school, and in life. Our school places a heavy importance on literacy, doing our absolute best to raise our students' reading and writing skills. Our students make this easy for us because of how much they love reading books. They cannot wait to get their hands on the next new book!
My Project
I have requested puffy fabric paint and personal book bags that are sturdy to help the fourth grade students take care of their books and other important reading materials. Having personal book bags will be a tremendous help to the fourth graders in our school.
We are a departmentalized school, so the fourth graders are constantly moving from classroom to classroom. Currently, we use plastic Ziploc baggies to transport their reading books from class to class. This usually results in tears and holes by the end of the week. With their own personal tote reading bag, students will be able to have their own bag all year.
Having sturdier book bags also means books are safer. These book totes will also allow children to carry more books than before. They can also safely bring books home to read and return them. The more our students read at home, the closer we are to improving reading.
Book totes will provide students with a sense of ownership, responsibility, and pride. Fourth graders will be able to use the puffy fabric paint to decorate their totes to match their own personal style. They can even illustrate their favorite book cover!
Thank you in advance for your kind donation to this project.
With these tote bags, students in the fourth grade will continue to understand the importance of reading everywhere they go. They will be able to carry multiple books to and from classes, recess, and lunch. They will be able to bring their books home and share with families and friends their love of reading, and maybe even inspire someone else to love reading!
