Our fourth grade students are always excited about learning. They work together to assist each other in achieving their goals. They are inquisitive, intelligent, and forever evolving. Our students are at many different reading levels and have different strengthens and weaknesses. They know that strong reading skills will help them in every subject. I love seeing them succeed and reach their personal goals they have set. When a struggling reader gets excited about their progress they feel motivated to read more.
For our very first reading project this year, I will be reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing to the class. I am hoping by giving the students their own copy of the book to read and follow along it will encourage them to find their love of reading. Students will make predictions and write summaries. They will also make connections to the text as we read. I plan to use Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing to introduce and review reading strategies we will use during the year. This book will be something they can keep and read over and over again.
