The demand for technological literacy in our country is quickly rising, and students are fast outperforming their teachers and parents when it comes to fluency with new technologies. My goal is to integrate technology into the classroom on a daily basis to help students meet this demand.
I teach 28 enthusiastic learners in a large, urban public school in New York.
My students are a diverse bunch, including students in special education and English Language Learners. My students are tech-savvy and constantly using technology to create content out of the classroom. They make iMovies, create albums of their own songs on Garage Band, and some even have their own blogs. As their teacher, I want to teach them about how these technologies can help them learn and guide them in the process of creating content.
My Project
Bringing a Flip Video Camcorder into the classroom will allow me to bring media and technology into the classroom on a daily basis. Students will be able to create multi-media projects to express what they have learned from their nonfiction studies. They'll be able to videotape scenes of their writing pieces being acted out and study them to see how the actors move and how their voices change. Imagine how that will strengthen their writing! I'll be able to videotape book clubs and partnerships as they discuss literature and big ideas in Social Studies. Students will be able to analyze the video to determine the richness of their conversation and make changes to their group work. We'll be able to share our videos on our own version of YouTube, so students will be producing work for authentic audiences.
