Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Working in a highly impacted school can be extraordinarily hard, but the students I work with have a way of grabbing onto your heart and never letting go. They are what drive me to come back to school each day- from hearing about their weekend adventures to celebrating successes, I truly love what I get to do!
My job, as a teacher, is to give every child the tools needed to be most successful.
In order to do this, we need additional materials that are not funded through traditional means. My students need basic materials like headphones, colored pencils, folders, scissors, and glue to assist with organization and basic school tasks. Our new folders will help us keep track of what papers need to go home with whom, and aid in better home-school communication.
Mini erasers and additional prizes are new for me this year- I plan to use them to help us with a math fact fluency incentive as well as for behavior incentives. Our students struggle to retain math fact fluency, which is one of those skills they will carry throughout their education, so I am hopeful that some fresh methods will increase this retention. In that same vein, stickers and small candies are a great incentive for students to continue working their hardest each and every day.
