Fourth Grade Flexible Seating

My students need wiggle seats, flexible seating and a math-focused center work rug to create options to offer them opportunities for movement and comfort during math centers.

My Students

About one-third of my class comes from a two-parent home, while the others live with grandparents, a single-parent, and three who even are currently placed in foster care. While about half of my students come from homes that provide academic support, many lack academic and technology-based support at home.

Our school is a Title I School among a county of fifty-three elementary schools.

Our school community is full of wonderful spirit, though highly populated, with over 1,000 students, and seven fourth-grade classrooms alone. Class sizes for our grade level is 24-25 students per class and continue to grow.

My Project

My class is a fourth grade Co-Op class, having more than six students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP), along with regular education students. These students will benefit from wiggle seats to move around while still in their seats during our independent work center, flexible seating (stools) at our Math Review center, and a classroom work rug that includes multiplication and division to work at our hands-on center during our math block. These students need to have opportunities to move around during our four math centers, and having different seating at each center would make them more inviting, comfortable and exciting for my students.
