Four More Chromebooks, Please!

My students need four HP Chromebooks with management licenses to practice keyboarding skills.

My Students

Many of my sixth graders do not have access to technology or reading materials outside of school. They live in an area that is a pocket of poverty. They attend an older, urban, public school that is coded as high poverty. All my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Many of them are the children of deployed military personnel. I have a number of students who are homeless or live in shelters. I have a transient student population. Over 50% of my class come and go during the course of the school year. Several of my students are also here in the United States for the first time, and English is not their first language. Many of my kids do not read at grade level. Writing is a struggle for them.

Gaston Caperton once said, "The gap in education in this country, the unfairness in schools, is one of the great unfairness in this society" and my students suffer from this unfairness.

They need technology to enter the 21st century on equal footing with others.

My Project

My students live in a world filled with technology that most of them never get to touch unless I provide greater accessibility for them. I want them all to develop the skills they need for high school, college and future jobs. I am asking for four HP Chromebooks with management licenses so that my students can learn how to key board and use GoogleDocs, Google Drive and more.

Like that army recruitment saying, I want my kids to be all they can be.

My students will use these chromebooks for math practice, research, writing and presentations.

My students also need to use these chromebooks to develop their test-taking skills. This year, they will be expected to compose their answers on the computer. These chromebooks are actually essential supplies. Twenty years ago, I would have asked for pencils. Today, students need up-to-date computer access inside and outside of school.

The support of donors would have an immediate positive impact on the lives of my terrific, hard-working kids. Our school lacks many resources. I want my students to dream of a better life. Help me to help them be all they dream they can be.
