What comes to your mind when someone asks you to write a story? Are you excited, energized, and intrigued? I want my students to feel exhilarated and motivated each time they sit down to write a story! Four Chromebooks will help my students make their stories come alive!
Our school is a culturally rich community with 32 different languages represented within our student body!
Although the students in my class are unique in every way, they all get excited about one thing: learning that involves collaboration, creativity, and technology.
The wide spectrum of writing ability and the high number of EL students in my class are what has inspired this project. Many students often have a hard time communicating their highly creative thoughts onto paper. Digital Story Telling is a fantastic way to transfer creative thought into a digital format. Although our school is culturally rich, we are technologically poor. My class only gets access to the computer lab once a week for 50 minutes, which makes it difficult to incorporate technology into the writing process. It is my hope to eventually have enough Chromebooks to give my students easy access to technology on a regular basis.
My Project
I teach my students the five steps of the writing process in order to help them organize their thoughts and write successfully. By breaking down writing into steps, the mystery is removed and writer's block is reduced. I often provide different ways to encourage creativity in order to capture students' imaginations in writing. Using these four Chromebooks and apps such as Pow Toon, Pixton, and Storybird, my students will be inspired to write narratives using their creativity and multiple media. Students will use the Chromebooks for prewriting, revising, editing, responding, and publishing their stories in a variety of ways.
If "Chevron's Fuel Your School Program" funds four Chromebooks for my classroom, we will be able to incorporate Digital Story Telling on a regular basis.
My students will be able to work collaboratively on writing projects and will be able to share their published work with their peers and parents. The Digital Story Telling will promote and model creative and innovative thinking. Students will be inspired to write by using images, audio, and video to further express their ideas.
