The students are really spectacular. They must go through a multi step audition process, just to attend the school. My new middle school students will be majoring in the following: Band, Creative Writing, Dance, Orchestra, and Vocal Music. However, as talented as these students are, 53% of the student population is on the free and reduced school lunch program. Which means the majority of the families have an extremely low family income.
As an educator, I have realized that being a great teacher means you have to think outside the box.
I have also recognized students needs go beyond the classroom.
Resources, such a simple tool that often gets forgotten in the world of education. The first step in being a successful learner and educator, is having the necessary resources to do so. As a teacher, I recognize the need from my students, but I can only provide so much.
To have an effective learning environment, we need pencils, loose-leaf paper, copy paper, markers, post it notes, organizational devices, and online resources to assist in the development of their reading, writing and studying skills in Social Studies.
In my classroom, I love being hands on. Having the necessary resources to have a learning environment that thinks "out the box" really helps students enjoy learning. Picture a classroom with students drawing, using post its to jot down their "Ahh HA" moments, and colorful student work displayed all over showing their achievements.
For small group work, it helps the students to have an expectaion of what is to come next. This is where the organizational tools come into play. It didnt take me long to realize that not all students learn the same. And as a teacher, it is my job to help reach each and every student to help them really be sucessful in my classroo
With your help, we can make that vision come to life. Thank you in advance.
