"Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world." - Maria Montessori.
I teach first, second, and third graders in an urban public Montessori school.
They are curious learners that work and learn from each other! Through the prepared environment, the students use materials to gain understanding and move to abstraction. They learn from each other and challenge each other to be the best they can be.
Our school zone includes the local shelter. We have multiple families who are struggling to meet their basic needs. The classroom is a safe, consistent place for them to come and be a part of our school family. As a teacher, my hope is that they become confident in who they are and free to question, explore, and understand this world we live in.
My Project
The math materials listed in this project target students basic understanding of place value and number sense. This year I have notice some students who are struggling in these areas. These materials will provide additional aid, allowing them to manipulate and hopefully master these math targets. The reading materials purchased through this project also target student's learning goals in building fluency, comprehension, and decoding skills. Teaching in a Montessori classroom, Lakeshore Learning provides wonderful products that support students independent study during their work cycle. I talk to my students daily how we need to "see it, say it, read it, write it" to master concepts in all subject areas. The materials purchased through this project will allow my students to do all those things.
