Fostering the Love of Reading Though Chapter Books!

Help me give my students the love of reading and the ability to connect it to their lives with chapter books!

My Project

I plan to use these chapter books as a book club in my classroom. This gives students a chance to learn from one another and develop close reading strategies. Being at a Title 1 school, my students may not have a lot of access to rich literature at home or be able to visit the public library often. I want to give them a reason to be excited and engaged to read and have it be something they look forward to doing.

In addition to the school curriculum, I want to give students the opportunity to have meaningful conversations with each other about the stories that they read.

My class will improve their comprehension and critical thinking through discussions and collaborations.

By increasing their reading, students will also expand their vocabulary and language skills. Another positive benefit is when students read more, they are able to improve in their writing because of the exposure to various author's voice in the stories.
