Help me give my students choice in the classroom so that I can foster their independence, help them learn accountability and responsibility, and create new spaces in our room where learning can happen...without just sitting at a desk!
My classroom is not one where students sit at desks in neat rows, keeping quiet and facing forward. They are moving around the room, making connections with other students and using hands-on exploration to grow and learn. I like to use the phrase "organized chaos" to describe my classroom because everyone always has a purpose and goals, but true learning is best done in collaboration with others!
My students love to learn, create, chat, and move...often all at the same time!
They use technology in new and innovative ways, they pull together tables to create better workspaces, and they work through problems together.
My Project
"Flexible seating" seems to be the new trend in education...and on Pinterest. However, there's tons of research out there to back it up! It goes deeper than having a cute, cozy, Instagram-worthy classroom with lots of textures and bouncy places to sit.
When we give students options and offer them the power to make choices for themselves, we are tapping into their ability to make responsible decisions, follow expectations, and grow into independent little people.
Who doesn't want that?!
