This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help my emergent readers to become engaged in literature! My bright and inquisitive first grade students are in great need of Spanish literacy materials to help them read, understand, and enjoy literature!

My first graders attend a very large k-5 Title I school of over 1000 students.

These 18 students participate in a Primary Language Literacy program through which they receive reading and writing instruction in their native language. Because we are part of such a large school, we unfortunately lack Spanish resources that are needed in order to help my students succeed.

My Project

These Spanish materials would be useful for my students because they would help them to connect to reading in meaningful ways. My students would use these materials for the purpose of guided reading groups, as well as one-on-one instruction in order to help them access the language. Specifically, the students would be able to use these materials in order to recognize letter names and sounds, identify key words and vocabulary, to read these words using picture clues, and to comprehend the text in a fun and student-centered way.

My first graders are very special individuals who are eager to deepen their love of reading.
