My students need Scholastic News and TIME For Kids for access to informational texts on real-life issues and topics so that they can learn to formulate opinions from a global perspective.
I have a diverse group of kids who are clever and have so much potential and only need the tools to succeed. I want to create a warm, inviting library area to help foster a love of learning. I also want to provide flexible seating within the library and classroom. Many of my students have problems remaining focused, and I believe this will help create the best learning environment for them.
My kids face a lot of personal and socioeconomic challenges, but a love of literature and mastering literacy should not be among them.
With the help of family and friends, I was able to purchase some books from thrift stores to adorn our classroom. I would like to continue to build a warm, inviting classroom that meets their needs.
My Project
Encouraging thinking on a global scale is critical in turning our young scholars into informed, well-rounded citizens. Introducing my students to different issues and topics that interest them is important to me as an educator because it fosters a love of knowledge and learning.
Scholastic News and TIME For Kids subscriptions will not only allow us to work on reading comprehension, having thoughtful discussions, and formulating informed opinions and arguments, but will allow students to bring something home - many of which don't have access to reading outside the classroom.
We currently do not have access to magazine subscriptions in my classroom, and I would love to provide them with this.
