My students need instructional nonfiction texts including Eyewitness Readers and 30 subscriptions to TIME For Kids, a set of Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, and 3 beanbag seats to provide an engaging reading environment.
I discovered the magic in books at an early age. When I began teaching, I was sad to see that my students hadn't found the magic that lies within the covers of a good book. I want to expand my book selection to provide more varied and engaging texts to make my students' imaginations soar and grow!
My students are a diverse group of learners.
Many do not have access to books at home and rely on the selection in our school library to accommodate their reading needs. I will be changing locations next year and encountering a new group of students. About half of the students at my new location qualify to receive free and reduced lunch.
My Project
Even I will admit that I would rather lose myself in a good fiction story than read nonfiction text. This is the EXACT reason why it is important to stock up my classroom library with engaging informational texts that students can relate to. The resources from this project will provide my students with access to nonfiction text in our classroom library and will also be used to enhance my instruction.

When nonfiction text is presented in a way that is exciting, all students will want to grab them and never let them go.
By placing these resources in my classroom, my students will have access to text that will grab their attention and spark their curiosity. Also, I will be using these resources to create a reading area in my room where students will feel relaxed and be able to enjoy reading for fun and to learn.
