Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my diverse classroom, where the majority of students come from low-income backgrounds and are English Language Learners, access to quality educational resources is essential for fostering engagement, empathy, and academic growth. I am therefore seeking funding to acquire 38 copies of "Prisoner B-3087" by Alan Gratz, a compelling novel that not only delves into historical events but also highlights themes of compassion and gratitude. Through the lens of Yanek Gruener's survival journey during the Holocaust, this novel offers a poignant exploration of resilience, human spirit, and the importance of empathy, making it a valuable asset for my diverse student population.
Through the reading of Prisoner B-3087, I aim to create a shared literary experience that transcends language barriers and socioeconomic differences, and fosters a sense of belonging and empathy among my students.
For my English Language Learners and students from low-income backgrounds, the book will serve as a gateway to understanding historical events in a relatable and accessible manner. The gripping narrative will captivate students' attention, while the themes of compassion and gratitude will resonate deeply with their life experiences.
With your support, I can bring "Prisoner B-3087" into my classrooms, enriching my curriculum with a powerful tool for teaching history, compassion, and gratitude. By engaging students in critical discussions, reflective activities, and interdisciplinary projects centered around the novel, I can empower them to connect with the past, understand the complexities of human experience, and develop a deeper appreciation for the diverse perspectives that shape our world. Together, we can create an inclusive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive academically and emotionally.
