This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The need for Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBI), and Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) has only become more pertinent in the educational field. Before COVID-19, anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms were already some of the most common mental challenges that children faced, which has only been exacerbated by the global pandemic. We are requesting Gel Ink Refills, Privacy Folders, Expandable Breathing Ball Sphere Toy, Erasable Highlighters and more.

Now, more than ever, children should be supported through early SEL-based interventions so they can acquire the necessary skills and dispositions needed for college, career, and life success.

This project will help foster a growth mindset, celebrate students' academic successes, and develop their self-awareness and self-management competencies for my current and future classes.

The erasable highlighters and pens will be an engaging, colorful way to help students reshape their mindset on how something they usually perceive as permanent, can be fixed, stressing that mistakes are not a bad thing. This type of mindset is important to promote academic and emotional success. Students will earn stickers through academic achievements and successes for their academic and SEL-based goals. Lastly, the diverse variety of stress relief & calming sensory toys will increase the chance of students finding a mindfulness strategy that effectively helps them manage their emotions and improve their mood in our Calming Corner.
