This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of the biggest parts of my jobs is teaching students how to identify their feelings and emotions and manage them. For this age group, tactile and creative activities are very helpful and engaging for emotional regulation.
As a school social worker, I work with a variety of students who would benefit from having accessible coping skills such as coloring books, journals, and tactile/sensory fidgets.
Due to limited resources, both at the school and in the community, it is very hard to provide these options for my students.
If this project gets funded, I will be able to provide students on my caseload, as well as other students who participate in SEL groups, with a variety of coping skills to choose from. I will teach them how to use the items in a way that encourages emotional regulation and mindfulness.
