Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
With severe budget cuts next year, the teacher to student ratio will now be 1:24 instead of the ideal 1:16. The materials requested will help provide meaningful literacy experiences.
The population at our school consists of mainly second language learners.
95% of our students receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch. We have a high transiency rate that makes every moment I spend with them very important. We are also an inclusive school that believes in the general education classroom as the best place for all students.
My Project
The Mailbox magazine subscription will help as a guide and resource for literacy instruction this year and many years to come. The CD and cassette players will help engage the students in independent meaningful literacy activities while the teacher works with a small group. The book cart will help organize all the books the students and teacher will be using daily for guided reading. All these things will help launch an successful reading workshop as it is done in the book The Daily 5.
The materials requested are ones that I can use for many years.
This project will reach a wide range of students throughout the years. I use the book The Daily 5 as a guide to launch a reading workshop in my classroom where children learn to be independent readers and frees me from micromanaging my students and instead use my time to teach skills, reading strategies, and give focused attention to many small groups of children, DAILY! :)
