Fostering a Love of Reading

My Students

My class is a room full of bright eyed, curious, compassionate kiddos hungry to learn and grow. My school follows a looping model so I get to keep my kiddos for kindergarten and first grade!

They love reading, and talking, sharing, drawing or making videos about what they are reading!

Their favorite time of the day is during read alouds.

Students from this neighborhood have parents that struggle to make ends meet and therefore school involvement is minimum. I like to provide an environment at school that is calm, peaceful and give them access to everything they need to grow their brains.

My Project

Iam asking for ten different leveled book sets. These books will go into our classroom library for kiddos to put into their individual book baskets to take around the room and read while in comfy spots, when finishing work early, or to work on their reading stamina. In order to progress in their reading my students need to be able to read a book with 95% accuracy.

These book sets will provide my students the opportunity to pick books that they are interested in, to make them feel successful and excited about reading and to motivate them to love reading even more.

We have many books in the classroom but I have to supplement with websites that have online books like Epic reading to be able to meet the needs of all my kiddos.
