My Students

I am a proud teacher of a lively and busy 5th grade classroom. I am constantly looking for new, fun, and engaging ways to introduce curriculum to my students. My class is very hardworking and eager to learn. As a school, we are always looking at ways to engage all of our students.

Students in our school community are often under served, over looked, and receive unequal amounts of resources depending on the district funding.

Despite these differences the students come to school every day, ready to learn and try their hardest with what they accomplish.

My Project

My students will be able to read and enjoy these novels as a class. The two reasons why we need these books is because they are part of our Battle of the Books list. This is a friendly competition done with another school, family feud style, over 36 different stories and novels. Our school has been reading and competing with Battle of the Books for the last 4 years and has had great success with it, as it is fun way to motivate students to read a variety of books.

Secondly, they will help support the idea of loving and caring for animals and not wanting to cause harm to them.

My plan is to read these stories "Rabbit Hill" and "Wild Wings" after we have read "The One and Only Ivan" which is about a gorilla who is being mistreated while he is in captivity. As we read each of these novels will complete a novel study unit on them to develop a comprehensive understanding of each novel. As a fifth grade teacher, I have picked novels to help my students become a better person overall and part of that is to develop a love or caring for animals.
