Help me give my students engaging lessons that spark their curiosity and develop critical thinking.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Butler's classroom raised $296

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I hope to purchase curriculum from professionals who develop engaging materials for the history classroom. Middle school students often cite history as their least favorite subject because it involves difficult reading, critical thinking, and writing about topics they usually do not care about. I hope to change that. Last year, generous donors financed a lesson from Teachers Pay Teachers that was an escape room. Students needed to analyze primary sources, cypher codes, and identify different perspectives in order to 'escape'. They loved it! This activity was cited as students' favorite in an end-of-the-year survey.
With this project, I hope to fund more activities that spark middle-schoolers' inherent curiosity and interest.
History lessons can engage students while simultaneously promoting fundamental skills in today's society, such as perspective taking, empathy, collaboration, source analysis, and causality. As a beginning teacher, it is difficult to create such lessons. Teachers Pay Teachers offers a way in which I can modify preexisting lessons to meet the needs of my students while also meeting state standards.
