Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a part of a targeted learning program in our school district for gifted students. My students are enthusiastic learners, who yearn to express their creativity and independence through art. A few months ago, our school board voted to close the elementary school that houses us, and we have been moved to a new school. It's been a very emotional time for our community, as our school was loved by many. My students are used to attending a weekly art class, but in our new school, they will only have art bi-weekly. I would love to fill my classroom with new art supplies as a way to bring my current students joy during this difficult time, as well as be able to provide more art lessons within my classroom space at our new school next year.
We also create and perform an opera every year.
Students write the storyline on their own, as well as create the choreography, costumes, and scenery. We need paint and supplies to continue this student-centered tradition at our new school.
