My Project

This donation will provide students with the books they need to read to participate in Idaho Battle of the books. The donated books will also be put into circulation in the school library and will be available to be checked out by all students in the school, even those who do not participate in Battle of the Books.

Idaho Battle of the Books (IBOB) is a fun and engaging reading competition for 3rd and 4th graders.

Students form teams and read 16 books from a statewide reading list that have been chosen for that year's competition. Then, in their teams, they participate in a fast paced trivia "quiz show" style competition testing their knowledge regarding the books they read. IBOB is meant to expose students to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints. The mission of the program is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, share the love of reading with students who have not yet discovered that for themselves, broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.

While this program is a fun way to challenge avid readers, it is also a wonderful way to engage reluctant readers who have not yet developed a love for reading. The team style competition appeals to students at all reading levels, and encourages reading in a fun format. Students are encouraged to participate regardless of their reading ability.
