Help me give my students a creative and engaging way to experience California history with the interactive book What was the Gold Rush? and then build our new Darkside Ollie 49er.
I teach an inquisitive, motivated group of advanced fourth graders who learn by questioning and creating. Design and innovation are integrated into all we do, and the goal is to provide hands-on experiences so that learning comes to life. Ours is a collaborative classroom where students work together to make sense of the world around them. Through exploration and problem solving, students are better able to understand and make a difference in the world they live in. Learning in our class is an adventure!
My Project
With the book What was the Gold Rush? and our Darkside Ollie by Sphero my students will learn all about this important time period in California history. With the information learned, they will then build a model gold rush village that once programmed, Darkside Ollie can travel through. While the books will help students explore the obstacles of the time period and problem solve how they might have been conquered, the Sphero will support students with ADD/ADHD who benefit from a more tactile kinesthetic approach to their learning. The breaks between research and programming will help refocus students as they learn about history.
Our new books will provide the knowledge needed to build and create a gold rush town of our own with historical obstacles for our traveling 49er (Darkside Ollie).
