Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an exhilarating class of 18 industrious first-graders. The majority of my students are English Language Learners. I have 5 students who do not speak any English. Many of these students face financial distress as well as other unimaginable obstacles. Over 80% of the students qualify for ESOL services and free lunch. There is a lack of resources (I.e. books and technology) in their homes and at times in the classroom. Nevertheless, they come to school each day ready and eager to learn. My goal is to challenge and foster their learning through technology and hands-on activities.

My Project

As a teacher, I must address a multitude of learning styles. With the various language barriers, interests, and a wide range of learning abilities, these Fire tablets will allow me to deliver the same information in different ways. My students are literally on all sides of every spectrum. I have students who do not speak any English, two students who are native-English speakers, and students who fall somewhere in-between. There are students who need enrichment activities to push them as far as they can go. Contrarily, I have students who require additional support with basic skills.

The Fire tablets will help me to erase borders, enhance interaction and communication in the classroom, as well as engage students in academic activities.

The world will be at their fingertips. Specifically, these tablets will be used for interactive programs like Istation and Imagine Learning. These programs help students with Reading, Math, and language development. They will also be used for reading books. Students can enjoy over 1,000 books on a single device, in English or Spanish. In addition, students have access to audiobooks and videos that will improve their learning and make them more comfortable while learning.

I chose this particular product because of its durability and 2-year replacement guarantee. If something happens to a tablet, they will replace it, no questions asked. They also come equipped with many kid-friendly features. All in all, the Fire tablets and headphones will be used to create new opportunities for enhancing the learning experience of all students at all levels. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.
