My Students

I teach at an amazing school full of diversity. We have over seven hundred students and over one hundred are English as a second language students. One hundred are Advanced Program students, along with a robust regular education program and special needs program. We call ourselves "The Greatest School on Earth," and we truly are! I teach our Digital Learning Lab, where students not only learn computer skills, but they participate in project-based learning. I get to teach all of our amazing students, either in a group setting, small groups, or individually. I am blessed to teach all of our students!

I want all of the students that enter my room to have amazing experiences because they are amazing and exceptional students!

My Project

When I read Karina Popovich's personal statement, I knew immediately that my students would be amazed by 3D printing just like she was at a young age. Her passion for engineering was sparked by watching a 3D printer create an object. I want her passion, as well as mine, to drive my technology students to create new things.

3D printers have unlimited potential to have a positive impact on student engagement and learning!

3D printers combine problems solving, creativity and innovation.

To make learning active and encourage real-world understanding, I want students to use the 3D printer to:

* Take a sketch of an idea and make it a reality

* Challenge them to invent something that would solve a real-world problem

* Integrate math skills such as geometry, volume, area and measurement

* Create physical maps, real-life structures

* Print models for science

* Recreate artifacts

* Integrate art and music

* Design games

All of these hands-on activities will set fire to their imaginations! A 3D printer would create excitement, as well as a better understanding of the design process. There are so many opportunities that this will provide for my students.
