My students' personalities could color a vibrant urban art mural! I am lucky to provide media and library services to a diverse population of grades 3-5 students, often from low-income households. These students are all things you imagine of children: funny, creative, curious, courageous, hard-working, adaptable, playful, and affectionate. The list could go on and on.
Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, each and every student in the building was able to check out 1-2 library books at least once per week.
This was their opportunity to choose books they enjoy and love. Students will continue to engage in remote learning as of August 31. They will not be able to check books out of our school library, many will not have any books at home.
My Project
During the coronavirus pandemic teaching, learning, and reading are all taking place online. School and public libraries are either closed or have limited hours and services. Many of my students do not have books to read for pleasure at home or the ability to purchase book that pique their interest.
The school library is a resource they depend on to dig into their deepest fantasies, uncover historical events, and build upon areas of interest.
With this resource being lost, these forever books will be incentive for students to keep reading and take a few moments away from the screen.
