Help me give my students forensic anthropology lab kits that will provide our Title I high school students with hands-on, inquiry-based experiences in forensic science, enhancing their critical thinking and STEM skills.

My Project
At BSSJ, a Title I high school in Brooklyn, we strive to provide our students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom knowledge to real-world applications. Our forensic anthropology course offers students the opportunity to explore biological anthropology through forensic investigations, but we currently lack the necessary materials to conduct in-depth, interactive labs. We are seeking funding to purchase three essential kits: Who Owns These Bones?, Hands-On Science: Forensics, and Ötzi the Iceman: Pollen Tells a Story. These resources will allow students to analyze skeletal remains, understand forensic techniques, and investigate ancient human history using real-world forensic science methodologies.
With these materials, our students—many of whom have limited access to STEM enrichment—will engage in practical investigations that build critical thinking and scientific reasoning skills.
The Who Owns These Bones? kit will introduce students to osteology and ethical questions surrounding human remains, while Hands-On Science: Forensics will provide structured activities to develop their forensic analysis techniques. The Ötzi the Iceman kit will allow students to explore how forensic science unravels historical mysteries, bridging anthropology with environmental science. Funding for these materials will directly enhance our students’ ability to apply scientific inquiry in a meaningful, career-connected context, fostering a deeper understanding of forensic anthropology.
