My Students
My students are a bunch of hard working, creative, talented kids who are always eager to learn. They rise to challenges and love to participate in hands-on activities so they can really experience the phenomena. My students wanted more options for science courses and the number one choice was forensic science.
Their excitement for this course is palpable and I want to make it as interesting and hands-on as I possibly can.
We have high expectations for our students, but they also have high expectations for their teachers.
My Project
This year I got the approval to teach forensic science for the upcoming school year! The students have been asking for the option to have an face-to-face forensic course as opposed to an online section. I don't blame them, it's meant to be hands-on and fun! However, since we are new to the subject, we have little to no materials. There are some materials I can recycle from my previous anatomy and biology classes (I'm teaching two new preps this year!), but the majority of the materials, I don't have. This means I am doing my best to DIY them. Still, some of these things I cannot make myself, or they are too expensive for our meager budget. I want to give my students the best experience I possibly can.
The materials on this list will enable them to have an actual hands-on crime scene investigation experience instead of a theoretical study of the content.
I will use these materials to set up different areas of a forensic investigation and at the end of each semester, I will set up a full crime scene in which students will work in teams to solve. I have already heard from so many students about how pumped up they are for this course, I just want to meet (and exceed) that expectation!
