My Students

My students are hands-on, curious learners. They work best when they can experiment and practice their knowledge. These students are highly diversified economically, academically and socially. Many have never been exposed to true science experimentation or inquiry.

I desire for my students to develop a love for science that will not be extinguished, while also learning life skills.

Working with peers and discussing experiences allows students to learn and apply scientific knowledge and develop skills needed as contributing citizens. Unfortunately, they have not been exposed to many of these processes or skills.

My Project

Grasping the concept of meteorology is difficult for many students. Static numbers and fictionalized/archaic data do not lend themselves to applying the weather-related vocabulary and concepts presented in the NC 7th grade Science curriculum.

Utilizing an interactive weather station and real-time data on our own school campus will allow our students to truly do science!

As they read and record hourly and daily measurements of rainfall, barometric pressure, temperature, wind speed and direction, humidity, and UV radiation, students will be able to apply concepts to real-life meteorology. Since the weather station has a wifi connection option, they will be able to access data through their phones and use technology intelligently.
