This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are the first grade math, science and Spanish teachers. We teach math, reading, writing, and science all in Spanish; our students are becoming bilingual. They are always excited to learn. They love math and science and they like exploring around to learn more Spanish.
Our little ones come from diverse backgrounds, but most of them live in shelters or with relatives, crowded in little apartments with more than two families.
They usually live with only one parent and sometimes that parent has more than one job. They come to us eager to learn and hungry, not only for physical food but also for love and safety. This year our students have a lot of economic needs.
My Project
Our students do not have access to a tablet at home due to their economic status. Giving them the chance to work on a tablet to get familiar with technology will prepare them for the future.
Having headphones for each student allows them to have more concentration and better enjoy a private experience when working on the iPads.
The students will be working on their math skills in the program called Dreambox. In this program, the students work at their own pace and in their own level. They also sharpen skills learned in class that day. This program is all in Spanish, which also helps them with their language skills.
In addition, the students will be working on their writing, reading, listening and speaking skills in English using the program Imagine Learning. In this program, the students read books at their level, practice phonics and they listen to themselves while reading. As they progress, they are able to work on reading comprehension skills.
