Studying the life cycle of any animal is always exciting for first graders. But actually seeing a creature develop and be born is exhilarating, especially for my students, who would hardly have the chance to visit museums or farms due to their living situations. Having an incubator and a lamp in the class and seeing the eggs develop daily and change will be an experience that these kiddos will not forget! The best part is when the little chicks start to break open the shells! Just seeing how they struggle to come out will give me opportunities to talk about persistence, hard work and patience. I want my students to experience nature hands on and become responsible by taking care of these creatures. This project will also give them more vocabulary in Spanish, since I teach Science in Spanish.
