For the Love of Reading...Always!

My Project

Reading is important because it allows students to gain knowledge about the world, develop critical thinking skills, expand their vocabulary, improve focus and concentration, stimulate creativity, and foster empathy by exposing students to different perspectives and experiences through the stories they read; essentially, it helps them learn and understand the world around them better.

This project will allow me to buy more books that match my students' reading levels and interests.

This is important because it helps all students find books that they enjoy. There is great joy in watching students choose a book and fall in love with it. In addition, students share their reading with their classmates by creating a "Book Talk" presentation. This activity allows students to make recommendations and it creates a "buzz" around books in our classroom.

My classroom library and curation of independent reading in my class is something that stays with students after they finish taking my class. Former students often return to my class to borrow books that they want to read. Similarly, students who I haven't taught but have friends who did, also stop by my room to borrow books from my library. Being a "go-to spot" for reading in our high school is a reputation I am proud to hold.

We have an awesome school community and the students truly appreciate having access to these books. All of the books in my library are treated with great respect and care.
