This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I serve elementary students in a Title 1 school in grades K-5. Many of my students have learning difficulties in the area of reading and often do not have access to books at their level to read for enjoyment. I hope to provide them with books at their level that also help them learn the joy of reading for fun! When students have struggled with learning the foundational skills needed for reading, they tend not to enjoy reading as they get older, even after they have learned the mechanics of reading. By having access to books that are at their level (and do not look too immature), students are more likely to choose to read.
