This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 5th grade!
I have wonderful students who have a contagious enthusiasm for learning!
As their teacher, I want to provide opportunities that will prepare them for learning in the 21st century. Collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking and problem solving are engaging strategies that inspire and motivate my students to go above and beyond!
My school is made up of over 70% free and reduced price lunch students.
The students don't always have access to resources, and/or transportation to the local library. I want to do everything I can to create a contagious enthusiasm for reading that will inspire and motivate students to be lifelong learners and readers!
My Project
When I was growing up, reading was fundamental! It was required and expected! It was just something you had to do and you did it! Books were a form of entertainment. We couldn't wait to go to the library to get a new book to read! My class has grown to be this way! This is so exciting!I truly believe, and research shows, that students get better at reading with practice. Like sports, musical instruments and even exercise, the more we work at something, the more we improve. Students who are excited about reading, who also have high quality, engaging books at their fingertips daily, will grow and develop as readers. Students with increased opportunities to read will build their stamina for reading and develop a daily habit and lifelong love of reading. As with any task, the learner must be motivated in order to be successful. My request is for a classroom lending library that will help me continue to motivate my students to read.
