Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. There are about 60 students that I see every day, and we have so many diverse learners. We rotate students throughout the day, and every student has shown growth in the area of reading when they have been actively engaged in the reading process.
We focus on strategies to help in the area of comprehension.
My goal is that with the right tools given to my class, I will see growth in children making connections to the text that they're reading.
I am a firm believer that when students are actively engaged in learning, they will, in fact, learn!
My Project
All of our students receive free breakfast. School starts at 7:50 am, and most students are dropped off well before the 7:20 am gate opening. Many face challenges at home, academically, and/or emotionally. They are hard-working children who love being part of a bigger school community. After school care is also well attended. We need to provide reading resources that will spark the love of reading for our students. But, we can't do it without YOU!
Our students love reading these highly engaging books on the SSYRA 3-5 list!
I have started allowing students to take last year's selection of SSYRA books home for their reading enjoyment, but we don't want to stop there! We want more!
