Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I serve 36+ 2nd grade students. My students come from a low-socioeconomic background. Despite their home lives, they come to school with sweet smiles and the absolute best hugs. I’ve come to learn their love of reading and listening to stories seems to calm anxiety and allow their minds to escape. I love getting my kiddos on the rug for a story and developing that sense of togetherness through a good book. My students love to hang out in a cozy nook with a great read In hand.

My Project

My students will enjoy a range of books that sparks their unique interests. Unfortunately, their exposure to print is limited in their homes and at school is where they get most of their exposure to books. I want to enhance my library to provide endless opportunities for reading and fuel their imagination. With a plethora of books, my students will be able to find on-level readers and books that speak to their heart. I believe that a literacy-rich classroom creates well-rounded students. My kiddos and I will be forever grateful with the abundance of books to read each day in our classroom!
