This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is an inner city school. We serve a diverse population of students and families.

We serve a student population of predominantly English Language Learners and 100% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Since our school serves a very high population of economically disadvantaged families who face many unique challenges, the staff at the school partner with families to not only support students' academic needs but social and emotional needs as well. Despite language barriers they come to school eager to learn.

My Project

My students are in need of non-fiction leveled readers to help build literacy skills. The books I currently have are falling apart and missing pages. We have some books that are just too hard.

With these leveled readers I will be able to give them books on their reading level and in line with their interests.

Kids love non-fiction books. While reading books on their reading level they will also be building knowledge about real world things.

These books will help student learning because when students read books on their reading level they enjoy reading a lot more and will feel more confident to be able to read more challenging books.
