My Students
I have 20 lovely kindergarten students. They all come from different backgrounds and economic statuses. Many of them come in barely knowing how to read, write, and knowing their letters/sounds. I strive to have a safe and caring learning environment for all students. Because of my efforts, I have created a caring classroom environment where all my children use manners and are preparing to be wonderful citizens for America. Our school is Civics based and they will grow up to learn about our government throughout the years. I also hope to instill a love for learning in all my students.
My Project
My school has about 2000 students in grades K-8. We currently only have one media specialist and not enough books for students to check out multiples for themselves. They are lucky to visit the library once or twice a month to take out a new book, as it is hard to fit everyone in the schedule. Since there are barely enough books for students, then that means teachers cannot check out several books to keep in their classroom library. My classroom library is bare as it gets costly to buy a large number of books to keep the kids interested.
These donated books will instill the love of reading into my students.
My students love to sit down with a partner and read a book together and talk about it. They love looking at the pictures in the books and finding their sight words. My students get so excited when they realize they can read many of the leveled readers on their own! I just want to keep them excited and wanting to learn to read. In order to do that I need more books.
