For the Love of Reading!

My students need high interest, dynamic books, at their reading level. All of these books have either been recommended to me by previous students or are books I am sure they will love.

My Students

My students are dynamic, diverse, 21st century learners. They come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. We are a Title 1 school in bustling Seattle. Many of my students are students of color, some of my students are experiencing homelessness, some are new to the country, and some are LGBTQ. As a special education teacher, all of my students require individualized education plans (IEPs).

My special education students are brilliant young people, that just happen to learn at a different pace and who require a different kind of educational approach in order to meet their academic and social emotional needs.

Their learning, and my approach, must be completely differentiated to meet their individual learning style and needs. I strive to provide my students with the most engaging, relevant, and technologically attuned education that I can. Donors Choose helps me to meet that goal!

My Project

In my class, students learn the fundamental skills of reading, as well as grade level common core standards. Every day students read independently for a portion of class time. My students read below grade level and are frequently very reluctant readers.

The goal of this project is to pack my class library with books I know they will love!

Students have specifically requested these books. I have also gone through and chosen books based on other teacher/professional recommendations. All of the books are accessible to my students, reflect the diverse backgrounds they come from, and will help them to practice all of the reading skills we practice in class. Most importantly, my students are really going to enjoy these books.
