For The Love Of Reading!

My students need iPods for a listening center during our literacy workshop. They also need comfy bean bag chairs to read or listen to the iPods for reading.

My Students

Help us join the 21st century in comfort to enhance our love of reading by listening to books on iPods in bean bag chairs! It's time to get out of those uncomfortable desks!

My students are 3rd graders who haven't necessarily had the best lives and for many of them, the classroom is their most consistent home.

We are in a school that is 89% free and reduced lunch, that is very diverse (59% African- American, 27% Asian, 3% Hispanic, 3% Native American and 8% Caucasian). Many of the students are behind in their grade levels but they all want to do well and have the ability to make HUGE gains!

My Project

I am not someone who likes to sit in a hard plastic chair all day and I don't expect my students enjoy it either. When you enter my classroom you will see students sprawled out on the floor in various parts of the classroom. I would love to create a reading corner with some bean bags for students to be able to sit back, relax, and to just read a book that they enjoy. Even if it is a book that is not all that interesting, the fact that they get to read the book in a comfy bean bag would be all that they need. I would love for them to be able to listen to a book on an iPod instead of having to read on their own, or listen to me read. The students LOVE technology and I truly believe that their excitement for reading would increase if they were able to listen to a story on an iPod. It allows me to work with smaller groups of students because they have something they can work on independently.

This project will make a "homey" classroom environment and help foster a classroom community.

A classroom that the students want to come to, that they want to show off, and one that they are proud of. It will allow students to use something that they might have only seen before. It will create an enthusiasm for learning for these 3rd graders that might have been lost.
