This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a new teacher joining a school midyear, my classroom is quite bare. I'd love to share a love of literacy with my third grade students and create a print rich environment by establishing a reading area in my classroom. I've hand selected a variety of books that range from different genres, interests and reading ability. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them to develop a passion for reading. Students have different needs that help them with their learning. Noise cancelling headphones will support students sensitive to noise. I hope the easel will be a place where we can communicate orally and through writing about the books we are reading.

My students are a special bunch of children who come from a variety of backgrounds and interests, and I hope that this environment in our classroom is a place where we can meet, make connections and enjoy conversing with each other.

My goals for this project are to help my students become more literate, develop a passion for reading, and gain confidence in their ability to understand and analyze complex texts across various genres, ultimately empowering them to become independent and critical readers.
