How do we understand ourselves without being able to see the whole picture?
My students are attending a free public charter middle school in North Carolina that has a mission to equip children with a set of skills that will prepare them for college and the future.
The children (and parents) here are dedicated beyond belief, choosing to be in school from 8-5 and on some Saturdays. They realize the connection between more instructional time and lifelong learning. These children WILL all go to college, and it is our job to ensure that we can assist them along the way.
My Project
By providing the real-to-life x-ray and and human body models, the children will have a connection to how their body systems work, look, and function within the bigger scope of their bodies. It is my hope that by having these materials, the children are able to internalize just how magnificent our human body is, and therefore strive to treat it well. The children don't have textbooks, so it is so important to provide images and hands-on materials so that the children may become motivated by seeing, rather than just knowing and trusting that their bodies look like this.
Your donations will allow these 7th grade students to explore not only what their healthy bones look like, but also how their broken bones look.
The models will provide labeled internal parts that provide much more opportunity to learn about the body than just pictures do. It is my hope that by allowing our children to have these materials, their excitement and knowledge will lead to a lifelong understanding of the human body, and perhaps some future doctors in the making!
