I teach a dynamic group of fourth grade students. My roster ranges from twenty to twenty-five students each year. These girls and boys can be hardworking and are highly motivated by their environment. These Title I students bring with them a variety of hobbies and skills. They share their love of sports, animals, music, and many other interests with me throughout the year, sometimes inspiring me to take up something new!
The classroom that I teach in is worlds different from the classrooms that we were once educated in.
The traditional methods, approaches, and even physical environments do not represent the standard classroom we might associate with the norm. When you spend 180 days working hard and enjoying what you are doing, it actually doesn't feel like work! These students deserve a classroom environment that is as unique and special as they are!
My Project
Students love choice and the idea of sitting in different places. Students will be able to move about the room and find a place that works best for them. These stools will provide each student with their own learning space, while allowing their young bodies freedom of movement while working independently.
Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
I love that students will be able to easily move these options around to find a safe, comfortable working environment for them! We will be able to use them at our small group area or for independent work around the classroom.
