As a special education teacher in a large urban school district, I struggle with providing enough resources for my students. My school has fostered a love of reading, and my students are given independent reading time on a daily basis. Teaching a group of diverse learners, I struggle to offer a wide variety of texts at my student's independent reading levels. My students are independently reading at different levels and are in need of a rich, engaging library of books to chose from. My students are critical thinkers, questioners, and dreamers. I want to be able to provide an engaging library to continue to foster their passion and love for reading.
My Project
As a diverse learning teacher, I struggle with motivating my students to read books outside of their comfort zone. By boosting my library with fresh, enticing novels, I can help my students learn that reading different genres of book can be fun and exciting.
A library full of exciting new books will provide endless opportunities for my students to engage in their passions for reading.
The addition of these novels to our classroom library will help challenge my students to ask thoughtful questions and engage in rich literature discussions. These books will help open doors to new, exciting worlds for my students to discover. As one of my favorite children authors Dr. Seuss once said, "The more you read, the more things you know. The more that you learn them more places you'll go."
