This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Kindergarten children learn best through play and hands on exploration. This year through Donor's Choose and other sources I was fortunate to receive many items for my students for small group instruction and independent centers. I have also made and laminated a large number of activities. However, I do not have a storage closet in my classroom or bins to store these items. Without an organized storage system, I am wasting a lot of time looking for items, and my classroom looks cluttered and messy!
With an well organized room, I will have time to efficiently plan differentiated activities for my students and actively work with my students.
I will use the large and small bins to sort items by topic and student level. The dry erase sleeves can easily be changed out to address student needs. The tiny bins will hold easily lost items used by students during small group time. The magnetic book shelf will display the books to be read each day so they are in a handy spot and students can anticipate what we are going to read and enjoy each day. The colored file folders will be used by students to keep their papers that are "works in progress." They will love the bright colors and the folders will help them improve their own organization skills!
With a well organized classroom, the students will benefit in many ways. An uncluttered and nearly arranged space is a better place to work and play, the students will have the benefit of using all the available resources in the room (because I will know where they are stored!), and they will see classroom materials being used then neatly put away which will be a model for them as they organize their own materials at their own desks.
