My Project

This project will give students the ability to prevent organic food waste from going into a landfill. Students will help dispose of organic food waste from our school served breakfasts and lunches into a compost bin located outdoors. This will be a daily task students will be involved in.

Students will learn how food breaks down in the dirt with the help of worms, water, and sun.

Teachers will have access to books on the topic of compost for lesson options. In addition to the large compost bin outside, we will have a see-through compost bin within the school library for students to observe the food breaking down over time.

Once there is enough food broken down in the dirt, teachers will help students transfer some of the dirt to a raised garden bed. Students can then plant vegetables or flowers within the garden bed. In doing this, students can truly see the full compost cycle. Thank you for donating to this environmentally friendly project for our elementary students!
