This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many students work part-time or full-time along with attending school every day. After they leave school at 3:00 PM, many go to work at 4:00 PM and work until closing time. Only 14% of students that graduate from our high school currently go to and finish college. The average ACT score is currently an 18. Despite the many challenges they face, my students come to school every day with an appetite for success and for learning. Help me give my students the opportunities they need to succeed!

My Project

I am requesting bins to help store all of the food my students and I are collecting as leftovers from the cafeteria. My students will be collect the leftover food from the cafeteria and store it in a safe place.

Approximately 40% of food is wasted in the United States alone, and my students and I are working on fighting that food waste.

By collecting the food, we are diverting the waste from a landfill and instead either giving the food to our own students to eat while they are hungry at school or donating the food to a local shelter.
