My Students

I teach a group of 26 enthusiastic public school 3rd graders who live in a suburban neighborhood of California.

They have varying abilities and learning styles, along with specific educational needs.

What makes them all similar is their sense of wonder, their curious nature and their quest to explore their world. They are constantly asking "How?" and "Why?" and they live in a constant state of wide eyed wonderment. I have the privilege and joy of working with them on a daily basis.

My Project

Educators all over the country are transforming their classrooms into exciting venues of learning. The restaurant supplies funded by this project will enable me to transform our classroom into an exciting hub of "Food Truck Fun". Imagine walking in and seeing the Food Truck Playhouse setup in the classroom as inspiration! Draped over their chairs will be the chef hats and aprons....the students will want to dive in and start the project right away! And can you just imagine how they will react when I tell them they will get to create their own food truck?

This project will support a project based learning opportunity in my classroom where the students become entrepreneurs, designing their own food trucks in response to our city's lack of interesting dining options.

This project crosses all curricular areas, from investigating other countries and their foods, to utilizing math skills both for the menus and recipes, to writing jingles and commercials to persuade people to eat from their truck, to economy concepts and skills.

It is a project that supports all learners and learning styles and provides educational options for each student, concluding with the opportunity to present their food truck concept (and a menu slipped into an official sleeve!) to the class and our community.
